SILENT SUFFERING – REALITY OF DOMESTIC ABUSE – Riya Saini & Dr. Nidhi Sharma

ABSTRACT

Domestic abuse is a widespread yet often hidden issue that affects countless individuals across the globe. The concept of “Silent Suffering” sheds light on the reality faced by many victims who endure physical, emotional, psychological, and financial abuse without seeking help or even fully recognizing the extent of their suffering. This silence is often driven by fear, isolation, manipulation, and societal pressures that make it difficult for victims to reach out or speak out. Over time, the abuse can become a normalized part of their lives, making it harder to break free from the cycle[1]. This paper delves into the complex nature of domestic abuse, focusing on the profound emotional and psychological toll it takes on victims, as well as the hidden factors that keep the issue in the shadows. The paper also examines how cultural norms, gender roles, socioeconomic factors, and education contribute to the silence surrounding domestic abuse, further entrenching the suffering of victims.. Despite the silence, there are emerging support systems, legal reforms, and advocacy groups working to raise awareness and offer help. However, overcoming deeply rooted social attitudes and creating comprehensive support networks remains a significant challenge. It emphasizes the need for a societal shift toward open dialogue, better awareness, and more robust resources to help break the silence around domestic abuse[2]. By exploring the psychological, social, and legal aspects of domestic violence, the paper aims to shine a light on the hidden pain of victims and offers recommendations for interventions and strategies that empower individuals to seek help and escape the abusive cycle.
