MEDIA’S LEGAL LABYRYNTH: LEGAL CHALLENGES FACED IN ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY – Padmaja Joshi & Akanksha Tiwari

Abstract

This research delves into the intricate interplay between media law and the global entertainment industry, with a particular focus on Bollywood and the television industry. By examining the multifaceted impact of legal frameworks on content creation, distribution, and consumption, this study aims to shed light on the challenges and opportunities faced by industry stakeholders. Key areas of investigation include censorship and content regulation, intellectual property rights, defamation and privacy laws, and the evolving landscape of digital media. Through a comparative analysis of legal systems and case studies, this research seeks to identify commonalities and disparities in the treatment of media and entertainment across different jurisdictions. Ultimately, this study will contribute to a deeper understanding of the legal and regulatory environment that shapes the media industry.

1.INTRODUCTION

India is one of the largest epicentres of the media and entertainment activities in the world. In recent years, the advent of digitalisation and social media has disrupted the traditional distribution of models and consumption patterns of entertainment content which has led to diversification in various media platforms thereby blurring the lines between films, television and online content[1]. This research report deals with the various challenges faced by celebrities and the entertainment industries of the nation and across the border itself.

As a result, the entertainment industry is facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities which will be discussed in this research.
