GROWTH OF VENTURE CAPITALISTS IN INDIA – Megha Dey & Sitam Paul

ABSTRACT

Over the past 20 years, India’s venture capital (VC) market has grown significantly thanks to a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, quickening technical advancements, and supportive government policies. India is currently home to the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world. Investors are flocking to India to take advantage of the potential in a number of industries, including technology, e-commerce, fintech, healthtech, and edtech. Specifically, the emergence of digital India has been a major facilitator, as startups are using the rising smartphone usage, internet penetration, and digital payment systems to innovate and alter established businesses. Both domestic and foreign venture capital firms have been instrumental in providing funding for entrepreneurs in their early and growing stages. Global VC firms such as Sequoia Capital and Accel Partners began to operate in the early 2000s, and this was followed by an increase in domestic VC firms like Nexus Venture Partners, Blume Ventures, and Kalaari Capital. This financial inflow has given Indian businesses access to markets, global best practices, mentorship, and much-needed money to grow. The venture capital industry still faces difficulties in spite of its expansion. Investors may be exposed to risks due to high valuations, market volatility, and regulatory obstacles. However, in line with worldwide trends, the Indian venture capital business has kept developing, concentrating on fields such as clean energy, blockchain, electric cars, and artificial intelligence. The venture capital sector is anticipated to grow further as India’s economy expands and its startup ecosystem develops, establishing India as a significant centre for innovation and entrepreneurship.
